The Komixathon Themes

After enough people brought up the use of a theme as safeguard from enterprising komikeros possibly sending in stuff already done before the event proper, we the organisers have decided it best to acquiesce, thus this list.

You are encouraged to use at least FOUR concepts from this list. You can mix and match these concepts in whatever way you want. And if you feel like you're up to it, you can use all of them.

These concepts are meant to be generative, to give komikeros ideas of what to do in their 24-hour komix, meaning you don't have to follow everything to the letter - read these words, look at the empty page, and see what you can come up with.

1) The entire book is set in one location.

2) The entire book features no living characters.

3) A fight is featured, and ends with one character losing an arm, while one character gets hit in the head, rendering the character unconscious.

4) The entire book is seen and told through the eyes and words of the secondary villain.

5) The entire book is seen and told through the eyes and words of the main hero's weapon.

6) Instead of a fight happening between rivals, a discussion occurs, leading to understanding, although one character still dies.

7) The entire book is made up of only six panels, repeated, reworded, and remixed in each and every page.

8) The entire book is made up of only one giant image, cut and sequenced into a story.

9) A fight is featured, and begins with the death of a dozen old people.

10) The entire book is set in the middle of two actions happening.
For example: the villain throws a punch and 24 pages later the hero gets hit in the face.

11) The entire book features no action at all.

12) A fight is featured, and ends with the birth of a dozen babies.

13) Every page adds or subtracts panels to or from the page.
For example, page one = 24 pages / page two = 23 pages / page three = 22 pages, etc etc.

14) Every page adds or subtracts colour to or from the art.
For example, page one = black / page two = black and red / page three = black, red, and blue, etc etc.

15) A character looks up at the sky and sees a bird for the first time in the character's life.

16) Every page introduces or eliminates a character in or from the story.

17) Every page introduces or eliminates a problem in or from the story.

18) A character looks out the window, and sees the world has changed.

19) Every page uses the words "lonely," "leche," and "like."

20) Every page uses the words "dust," "desire," and "dark."

21) A character looks at the mirror, and sees the reflection of a different person.

22) Every page is set one year before or after the preceding one.
For example, page one = 1982 / page two = 1983 / page three = 1984, etc etc.

23) Every page is set in different yet interconnected locations.
For example, page one = bedroom / page two = living room / page three = corridor, etc etc.

24) A character looks up at the sky and sees a star for the last time in the character's life.

Good luck and have fun!
